Below is a link to the site along with a review of the program. Do you have to use it? No. I suggest you check it out, play with it this summer, and see if it is something that can be part of your curriculum.
Personally, I think this could be a fun way to tie a lesson together that requires students to analyze information or data and to give their opinions through a critique on a topic or issue while using technology through video editing. Not all, but some students are intimidated by actually creating a video from “scratch”. They may think they are not creative enough or lack the skills to do it. This program offers students the opportunity to work with something that already exists and looks professional.

New resource in the ERH Library!
Recently I stopped by Ivy Storm’s classroom. She was excited and pumped up about receiving a new book she had been waiting for. Ivy explained everything she loved about it; short lessons, applicable approaches/strategies, the prompts, tips, visuals, and color. She was so excited about it, I decided I had to see. So, we sat down and previewed it. It quickly grabbed my attention and I saw immediately why she was ecstatic.
After continuing to look at the book a little longer, we decided this could be a great resource for the ELA team, not to mention other departments.
I spoke with Mr. Crawford, got his approval, and Chris and I placed the order. We waited and waited for purchasing, and now two months later the books are here. Waiting for purchasing could be a whole other post.
For now, Ivy and I are excited to share, The Reading Strategies Book: Your Everything Guide To Developing Skilled Readers.
The books are available for check out from our school library. Will you use all 300 strategies? No, but you may find several that you can use immediately or can adapt to fit your needs, especially with struggling readers or your own young little readers at home for practice. This may be a title to include on your summer reading list. Ivy has also offered to help anyone who may be interested in learning more about how to use the book or how integrate any of the lessons into any of your current ELA activities.
By the way, I am not sure exactly why I stopped by her room that day, but it all worked out!
